- Anatomy & Physiology of Pain; a session dedicated to understanding the anatomy and applied physiology of pain transmission, “how does a peripheral stimulus register in our brains as conscious pain”
- Role of the Acute Pain Team; what can you do, WHO pain ladder, algorithms for management of postoperative pain (including epidural basics)
- Analgesics; a look at the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and dosage regimes for common pain killers
- Epidural and spinal analgesia; why do we do it, how do we do it, common problems and pitfalls, current best evidence
- Multi Modal Approach; using iv,po,im, neuraxial and peripheral nerve blockade to achieve the best analgesic “recipe”. Using case scenarios to work through problem cases.
